West Side Place is an 80-story landmark in the heart of Melbourne’s Central Business District. The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne, occupies the top 16 floors and proudly upholds its tradition of delivering a refined and seamless guest experience.
The Ritz-Carlton Melbourne combines guest rooms with dining, wellness and event spaces – each with unique lighting and functional requirements. The lighting system needed to be extremely flexible while maintaining a consistent and luxurious aesthetic throughout the hotel.
Seamless integration with other systems – including BMS, HVAC, AV, shading and guestroom management – was essential to optimize the guest experience and streamline staff operations. Sustainability and future readiness were also priorities: the system had to conserve energy, offer long-term reliability and allow easy expansion without disrupting hotel operations.
System integrator bluebottle implemented a full Philips Dynalite installation across all hotel zones: lobby, corridors, ballroom, wellness areas, pool and all 257 guest rooms. Lighting was tailored to match the hotel’s architectural elegance and luxury, with custom lighting scenes and smooth transitions throughout the day. This creates a warm, cohesive atmosphere across all spaces. The advanced DALI integration supports up to 96 scenes per zone – ideal for multifunctional spaces with changing layouts or events.
Dynalite was also integrated with Interact Guestroom Management, BMS, HVAC, AV, curtain control and housekeeping systems. This enables rooms to respond automatically to occupancy or guest preferences. For example, when a guest enters a room, a welcome scene opens the curtains and activates ambient lighting. Guests can easily control settings or request services via an Antumbra touch panel – with requests instantly displayed on hotel staff dashboards, enabling fast and efficient response.
On the sustainability side, unused areas are automatically placed into energy-saving mode, adjusting lighting, temperature and shading. The modular system design and locally sourced components also ensure low-maintenance operation and readiness for future expansion – with no major interventions or disruptions required.
